Is race car driving really a sport?

Do professional race car drivers excell at other sports? Do we ever see them in the "Ripley's Believe It or Not" or the "Guiness Book of World Records" for excelling at some physical excercise? Did they letter in alot of sports while in High School? Did they get alot of scholarship offers for sports otehr than race car driving?
