Virgin Media "V Box" Help me - somebody - PLEEASE!!!?

I just got a "Virgin V" box (Samsung SMT-2110C) and it has been fully connected to the: tv, vcr, and all the arials. (Not by the company henchmen) when I switch on the av center the box turns on and a message is displayed on the TV screen (it says "your digital service will start shortly") but then the box goes into standby, when I go through the AV channels nothing is displayed (apart from on AV1 which is the channel which the message was displayed on, where there is a black background and dim coliours flash), I've tried every on on the remote, and have looked through the "manual" and nothing is said about this. What do I do??? (also when the box turns on, the leds on the box say "LD30" then "LD40".
