How do they keep it fair with the changing conditions on the winter olympic courses?

It seems like it would be a huge disadvantage to go last on a ski course -for instance once the sun has its way and slushes things up. In my estimate, even a few minutes of sun could well account for the few hundredths of a second that separates the metals.
