Iphone apps without jailbreak?

Hi I'm wondering if I can use .ipa apps on my Iphone 3gs without Jailbreaking it? I no I can by jailbreaking it, but Im wondering if I can without because I dont really care for the tehtered one. Thanks for alla answers :)
